Top Tips for November

Every month, I will endeavour to provide some top tips that will help your journey towards living a gluten, dairy and soya free way of life, just like they helped me and mine.

This month we are concentrating on:

  • Being positive
  • The importance of reading the label
  • Becoming a fan of the ‘free from’ aisles

Be Positive

Even though it can be hard at times, try and take a positive approach and remember any setback experienced is a period of time that WILL pass. I have endured many setbacks with the boys and some worrying times but it helps to have faith in what you are doing.

Try your best to eat healthily, go outside and breathe lots of fresh air, drink plenty of water and get lots of sleep. Heal from the inside, nurture yourself, adopt a positive mindset  and give you and your family the best chance of overcoming any setback that comes along.

Read the label

When buying anything from anywhere, make sure you always read the label and be aware of any hidden ingredients. If there is anything you are not sure about, don’t hesitate to contact the manufacturer. My experience is that most manufacturers are very helpful and will do their best to advise you on ingredients and cooking methods.

Become a fan of the ‘free from’ aisles

Even though I am all for baking and cooking naturally and healthily, there are just some days when I run out of time and I have to search the cupboards for an emergency back up meal. This is just living in the real world.

By stocking up with some key ‘free from’ products, you are always prepared for those last minute meals and it adds a bit of variety to your cooking. There are some surprisingly good ‘free from’ food items that you can buy that taste pretty good  and it takes the pressure out of always having to prepare a home cooked meal.

My particular favourites are rice noodles, passatta, free from pasta and fish fingers. I also find it handy to keep a stock of meringues and fruit jellies for pudding and fruit sticks for snacks and lunch boxes.
