Chocolate Avocado Mousse

This chocolate avocado mousse recipe is inspiring and, by making this delicious delight for my two boys, a very special memory was created.

The story starts in July 2014 when we were advised that both boys needed to eliminate dairy from their diet. Going to a coffee shop for a slice of cake or to the sweet shop to buy a well deserved chocolate treat became a lot harder for all of us. Not only because little dairy free goodies were not available to buy in our local sweet shops and cafes but, even harder to deal with, was seeing the boys getting upset, confused and frustrated at me having to say ’no’ to the treats that ordinarily they would have eaten and enjoyed.

Thankfully, main stream shops and supermarkets now stock more and more dairy free, gluten free and soya free items but they are often heavily processed, filled with sugars and preservatives and they are also very expensive. However, this still doesn’t overcome the issue of being to buy dairy free treats for the boys from our local shops.

So, to be able to give them chocolate, in any form, is a heart swelling moment (and, quite frankly, a massive relief), and these chocolate avocado mousses were no disappointment.  Their little faces lit up like a Christmas tree as I watched them fill up with pure joy and excitement about this chocolatey treat. They didn’t say a word for the whole 10 seconds it took them to guzzle it all down! And they came back asking for second helpings and then third!

Seeing their happy faces will be a moment that will stay with me for a long time. Creating memories like these certainly makes my free from quest a very worth while one.

Gluten free. Dairy free. Soya free.

Ingredients

To make 6 dreamy chocolatey portions you will need:

  • 2 ripe avocados
  • 4 bananas
  • 12 organic medjool dates (or substitute with normal dates)
  • Cacao nibs
  • 5 heaped teaspoons of Green and Blacks organic cocoa powder. This is ok to use with a dairy intolerance but not an allergy. If you have an allergy use raw cacao powder instead.

Method

  • Remove the green flesh from the avocados.
  • Add all the ingredients in to a bowl and blend in to a smooth mixture.
  • Serve in small dishes and sprinkle with cacao nibs.

Watch their faces, remember their gorgeous little smiles and savour every second of this deliciously rewarding moment.
